With Sleepy hollow finishing last night in the US, chatter has already begun about whether it will receive a 3rd season.

*Spoilers Beware*

With viewing figures for the first season averaging 7 million per episode and a season high of 10.10 million viewers, it was no surprise that a second season of the crime come fantasy series was renewed.

Unfortunately in the US the second season did not fair so well with a combined average audience of only 4.5 million viewers and a season high if just 5.5 million.

With the series conclusion seeing two of the main story line characters die Tom Mison who play the lead role of Ichbod Crane has stated if they were luckily enough to get a 3rd season it would be in the form of a reboot stating,

“If we do get a third season, it would definitely be a reboot, It certainly felt, after watching [the finale], particularly the last 20 minutes of it, it certainly felt like we’ve acknowledged the show that everyone loved, and we can still do it.”

the actor did also mention that if the series was to finish there then fans would of atleast hand a suitable ending leaving very little stone un-turned.

“If there is no third season, then it certainly feels like ending it on a high and rounding it off nicely.” Mison added.

He also believed that  it was possible to reinvent the series, with plenty of story lines to still explore.

In an interview with TVLine  showrunner Mark Goffman spoke about moving forward with Sleepy Hollow, giving hints on possible future story lines for season 3 stating,

“There are so many stories to tell. Some of it is in the aftermath of these incredible, emotional moments that these characters went through here. Obviously, for the better part of two seasons, Crane has been wishing his wife were free from Purgatory, but it didn’t really play out the way it had planned or hoped. There’s a lot of room to continue telling the story. There’s also the ability to launch in a whole new trajectory, because there really is more to both of their lives that they’re going to find out in these many years of trials and tribulations.”

Sleepy Hollow is set to return in the UK on March 26th on the Universal channel.
