Downton Abbey 6th season could be its last, according to Maggie Smith.

It will come as no surprise for readers of this site that I am no fan of the phenomenon that is Downton Abbey, and so it is therefore with pleasure that I report that Downton Abbeys fourth coming season 6 (I have my fingers and toes crossed),  will be the last so that a much more deserving series can take it place.

Maggie Smith who plays Violet Crawley in the period drama recently spoke out and stated,

“They say this is the last one, and I can’t see how it could go on,” Smith told the Sunday Times.

“I mean, I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s.”

The series that first aired in the UK in 2010 has gained a loyal following with around 9 million viewers regularly tuning in just within the UK, this without the further loyal following in the US.

I am obviously in the minority of who dislikes the series, as it recently won Best Drama at the National TV Awards and has also won several Golden Globes including most recently Best Series.

Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery and Maggie smith should all be returning for season 6 later this year.
