10 years since the first Hellboy movie came to the Big screen, Guillermo del Toro still has no idea whether Hellboy 3 will ever go into production.

Since the sequel was released back in 2008, del Torro has spoken on numerous occasions about the possibility of bringing back the red demon super hero.  Doubt was always cast by actor Ron Perlman who has more recently started to  become more positive to the idea of reprising the Hellboy character, del Torro has now started so cast further speculation as to whether Hellboy 3 will have get off the ground.

He recently stated openly on a Reddit “Ask Me Anything”,

“Well, you know, we don’t have that movie on the horizon, but the idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face… that part of his nature.” he continued “And he has to do it in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the third film.

“He has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It’s a very interesting ending to the series, but I don’t think it will happen.”

Although del Torro had the full storyline outlined when talking about what was stopping him he went onto say,

“It has proven almost impossible to finance. Not from my side, but from the studio side. If I was a multimillionaire I would finance it myself, but I spend all my money on rubber monsters”.

With the second movie grossing $160 million on an $85 million budget , it is clear that it was not a flop but with all the comic book movies that have come since making on average at least 3 times production cost $75 million seems like pocket change.

When del torro spoke about the possibility of using some sort of crowd funding platform we added, “We’ll need a mega-mega Kickstarter!”

With Guillermo del Toro currently finishing work on his new TV series “The Strain”, and also pressing forward with Pacific Rim 2, Hellboy 3 may have to sit on the back burner before he even gets the chance to consider it again.
