Watch acquire rights to air Vampire series The Strain

UKTV channel Watch has confirmed that they have acquired FX series The Strain.

In the latest addition to Watch’s line up of  imports from the states, they have now picked up the rights to air the 13 episode drama based around an epidemic disease which turns out to cause vampirism.

The Strain follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The Strain which is based on a novel by Chuck Hogan is set to come to Watch this Autumn, created by both Hogan ans also Pacific Rim Director Guillermo del Toro. The deal marks a further collaboration between 20th Century fox and UKTV after having already worked together on shows like “white Collar”and Crisis.

“The Strain feels totally fresh in the horror/fantasy genre – forget everything you’ve seen about vampires, as this series will turn it on its head and leave you spinning”, commented Catherine Mackin, UKTV’s Director of Acquisitions. “It has a rich heritage of writing talent combined with stunning visuals and outstanding acting and we can’t wait to bring this exciting and epic series to Watch. We are also delighted to be extending our relationship with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and bringing more quality drama to the UK.”
