A 5th installment in the Underwolrd franchise is expected to commence production in Spring 2015.

Since the first Underworld was brought to us by director Len Wiseman in 2003 every 3 years has seen the release of a further addition to the franchise.

In most recently released movie ‘Underworld : Awakening’ Kate Beckinsale returned as the lead again for the  4th time, it now seems that Beckinsale will not be reprise her role as the Vampire Selena for this the latest episode in the franchise.

Theo James who recently starred in Divergent was introduced as David in ‘Awakening’ and is now set to take the lead when filming begins next year.

Casting is also underway to recruit 2 more female leads, the yet untitled 5th movie is set to expand on the already established world of Vampires and Lycans, rather than attempting to reboot the franchise.

Back in 2005 when original director Len Wiseman was asked about the Underworld movies,  he  stated that when he started work on putting together the first movie it was always intended to be a trilogy, but it now seems that the franchise has more legs in it that what was originally envisaged.

We are surprised that studios have decided on releasing a further movie in the franchise, although all the movies to date have made money there has been no amazing returns, with the last movie turning a profit of around $85 Million.  If we are to compare that to a vampire franchise like Twilight that brought in at least $600 million profit per movie, it makes it look like a drop in the ocean.

Cory Goodman is on board to write the script, while Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.

We will let you know more on this when we have it.
