Twelve Monkeys receives season 2 renewal from syfy

Syfy have renewed Twelve Monkeys the new series based on the 1995, which will return for a second season.

Syfy has renewed their latest original drama series 12 Monkeys, starring Kirk Acevedo, Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull, for a 13 episode second season, set to air in 2016.

The season will return for a further 13 episode run which will air in 2016 and star Kirk Acevedo, Amanda Schull and Aaron Stanford. 12 Monkeys, which is eight episodes into its 13 part first season, has not been a big performer for Syfy in live+same day ratings, though the network noted that it has seen significant uplifts (104%) once DVR viewing has been factored in. The most recent episode was the highest rated yet, with an audience of 1.5 million viewers, up 6% on the previous four episodes.

“We are absolutely committed to 12 Monkeys, and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned,” said Dave Howe, President of Syfy. “The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for.”

“12 Monkeys is a show that has exceeded expectations at every stage”, added Jeff Wachtel, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s President and Chief Content Officer. “It’s had a great first season creatively, and is building a dedicated audience. We can’t wait to see where – and when! – Terry and Travis will take us next.”

12 Monkeys follows in the foot steps of Defiance, Dominion and Helix all original scripted drama for the network that went on to receive season 2 renewals.
