.Tom cruise to take on sean connery role in highlander..
Highlander is expected to get a reboot from Summit entertainment.

In an unexpected announcement Cruise is being earmarked for the mentor role in the new Highlander, the part that Sean Connery took on in the original film. One of Cruise’s representatives admitted that Highlander is “one of many projects that come to him and he discusses”, noting that the actor is “far from talks”. Furthermore, Cruise has been “offered tons of projects”.

The original movie was released in 1986 starring Christopher Lambert in the lead role, which went onto spawn a further 3 movie with the last being released in 2000.

Highlander is being directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who did second unit directing work on Maleficent, and was the visual effects supervisor on Snow White And The Huntsman., with Justin Lin on board to executive produce. We’d imagine that Summit will want to get cameras rolling at some point next year

At this point though it really is just an idea. On the surface, though, it’s a pretty nifty idea. Cruise has been going strong in sci-fi type pictures over the past couple years, and based on the original Connery template there’s a role here that is romantic, strong, and earns crazy audience sympathy. In the best-case scenario, it would be great for Summit and the film, and also potentially good to Cruise.

More on this as we have it.
