The Musketeers picks up season 3 order

The BBC One series ‘The Musketeers’ has confirmed that a series 3 will follow.

With the series picking up audiences outside the UK via BC Worldwide and BBC America, it has made it possible for the Adventure series to continue for a 3rd series.

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said: “The Musketeers has delighted audiences at home and around the world and we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to financially support bringing a third series to the BBC, with improved value for the licence fee payer.”

News of the period adventure’s renewal first surfaced when director Andy Hay announced on Twitter that new episodes would start shooting in the Czech Republic from April.

Series 1 saw the series go up against ITV period Drama Mr Selfridge in the UK in the 9pm Sunday night slot, although the Musketeers had strong viewing figures pulling an average of around 5.5 million viewers, Mr Selfridge faired better. Season 2 of the Musketeers has seen the series moved to a Friday night 9pm slot with it competing against ITV comedy Benidorm.

The Musketeers stars Luke Pasqualino, Tom Burke, Howard Charles and Santiago Cabrera as the eponymous heroes, with Alexandra Dowling, Ryan Gage, Maimie McCoy and Tamla Kari also among the cast.

The show is also currently airing on BBC America on Saturday nights, in the US.
