Back in 2004 Pixar were at the forefront of the superhero genre with the release of  Incredibles, and now after 11 years it seems that Incredibles 2 is nearing productions.

Last year is was confirmed that Brad Bird would start work on a long awaited sequel to the Incredibles, but has now given us an insight into what we can expect stating,

“What’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out,One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks.

What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time.”

When asked about how far through the script he was he continued, “I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it.

“I’ve got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we’re all having a good time with it.”

It has not been confirmed if the original cast members will be returning for the second outing for the superhero family, the first movie had the voices of Samuel L Jackson, Craig T Nelson and Holly Hunt.

Although both Nelson and Hunt have returned to voice the characters for the Disney Infinity Game that came out in 2013, which makes it seem likely that these 2 will return.

As for a release date nothing has been made official yet, Bird did comment on this stating,

“In terms of the release date… Incredibles was [originally] supposed to happen after Cars,”

“Our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you’re making films so far in advance.”

Originally it was ear marked for a 2016 release, although we may see it pushed back to 2017.

More on this as we have it.
