Stephen Kings detective thriller Mr Mercedes, is set to be adapted for the small screen by sonar entertainment.

If it’s not a movie to TV adaption being announced, then it the astounding writer Stephen Kings work that seems to be  getting adapted.

David E Kelley, known for Ally McBeal and Boston Legal, has signed on as writer, while Jack Bender of Lost and Under the Dome will direct.

The story focus on a retired homicide detective who’s haunted by the few cases he left open, and by one in particular – the pre-dawn slaughter of eight people among hundreds gathered in line for the opening of a jobs fair when the economy was guttering out. Without warning, a lone driver ploughed through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes.

Kelley said: “This is an amazing opportunity to adapt a script from material penned by one of the world’s most acclaimed and accomplished authors.

“Mr Mercedes is a great story that will translate beautifully to the screen if I don’t mess it up.

King added: “I’ve admired Jack Bender’s work for years, both as a director on Lost and later Under the Dome, where he really caught the surprise element.

“David Kelley is incredibly gifted. I’m excited to work with these amazing talents.”

currently King has numerous projects including a quadrilogy movie adaption of his Novel ‘The Stand’, TV Mini series 11/22/63, The Boogeyman and Gerald’s Game to name just but a few.
