The Fall is set to return for a 3rd series, with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan both reprise their roles for the Belfast set drama.

The BBC 2 Thriller is set to air sometime in 2016, after being a big rating pull for the channel.

“The story is far from over,” said the BBC’s controller of drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson.

BBC Two has ordered a further five episodes for the show’s third season, which will once again be shot on location in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan will return as the series co-leads, which will see another game of cat and mouse between Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson and Paul Spector, as the story unfold more twist.

“Allan [Cubitt] has known the end game from the beginning – the cat and mouse game between Gillian and Jamie has one last act to play out. Who will win?”

Series two ended on a cliffhanger, with Dornan’s character on death’s door after being shot by a rogue gunman.

Jamie Dornan is currently starring in Fifty Shades of Grey as Christian Grey, and is also set to reprise his role with filming expected to start later this year.  Gillian Anderson will next be seen when she reprises her role as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, in the third season of Hannibal.
