The Sherlock Christmas special set for release in 2015, has received a teaser image via twitter.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman appear in the photo, which was unveiled yesterday (November 25) by producer Sue Vertue on Twitter.

The actors appear in the classic style of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories, rather than their usual modern day garb.

Vertue did not reveal any more information as to why the pair appear this way, but suggested that the outfits feature in the upcoming episode, using the hashtag “#notkidding”.

The cast and crew assembled today for the first read-through of the special episode, written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.

Sherlock will return with a one-off special in 2015, with filming expected to begin in January.
A full fourth series will then shoot later in 2015 for broadcast the following year.

Earlier this year, Moffat claimed that the “devastating” outline for the new Sherlock had “practically reduced [the] cast to tears”.
