Yes you read that headline correct Scarface is set to for a come back, and according to The Wrap director Pablo Larraín has already been ear marked for the project.

Although the 1983 film starring the number one gangster actor Al Pacino was a remake of the 1932 film starring Paul Muni ( anyone know that name? no me neither).  So as I was saying Al Pacino the Don of all gangster movies may no longer be the Tony Montana that we think of when the role is recast.

The story is set to re-imagine the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. Universal’s update will be an original story set in modern day Los Angeles that follows a Mexican immigrant’s rise in the criminal underworld as he strives for the American Dream.

It is said that universal are looking to cast someone in the title role, who is of Latino decent and is bilingual and at present it has been stated they are happy to cast an unknown actor for the part.

The new “Scarface” will be a more mythic origin story that explores where Tony’s physical and emotional wounds come from and how they shaped him as a man.

I’m sure a lot of people who have seen the original will be thinking that Scarface is not a film that needs to be remade, and I would be right by your side in thinking that.

Lets just hope that Larraín can do the film justice.
