Maggie Gyllenhaal to star in BBC 2 The Honourable Woman

The Honourable woman is a 8 part thriller set to air this July on BBC 2 starring Oscar nominated Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal ( The Dark Knight).

The series follows Nessa Stein who as a young girl witness the assassination of  father by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation.

Now in her 30s, Nessa is at the forefront of the Middle East peace process. But when she awards a lucrative contract to a Palestinian businessman, who is later found dead, she finds herself under the close scrutiny of Whitehall and the Secret Intelligence Service.

also set to star is Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan along with Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) and The Shadow Line’s Stephen Rea.

The eight episode series was created by Hugo Blick and was originally commissioned by then BBC Two Controller Janice Hadlow and the BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson back in August 2012, with US basic cable network SundanceTV boarding as a co-producer in June 2013.

Rea will play Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, an MI6 spy on the verge of retirement who is digging into Stein’s (Gyllenhaal) life and family. Lindsay Duncan (The Hollow Crown, White Heat) is cast as his bitter ex-wife.

Buchan stars as Stein’s brother and Parkinson plays his “highly strung pregnant wife”.

Academy and Tony Award nominee Janet McTeer plays the head of MI6 Julia Walsh, who has a hold over Hayden-Hoyle (Rea).

Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones), (Episodes), Israeli actor Igal Naor and Eve Best (Nurse Jackie) have also been cast in the series.

The series is to air on July 3rd on BBC 2 in the UK and on Sundance on July 31st in the US.
