Another of David Walliams short stories is set to be adapted for TV this Christmas, with Kate Moss and Jennifer Saunders both cast.

Walliams’s TV adaption of The Boy in the Dress, follows on the from the success of ‘Mr Stink’ and ‘Gangsta Granny’ that have both been aired over the last 2 Christmas.

The story follows a 12-year-old boy who enjoys cross-dressing, and how his family and friends react to it at home and school.

Billy Kennedy will make his debut as main character Dennis, while Tim McInnerny, Meera Syal, Steve Speirs, James Buckley and Felicity Montagu will also star, alongside Walliams himself.

Walliams said: “We have put together a dream cast for this, the first of my children’s books – and for many still my best. It is a funny and poignant story about what it is to be different. I hope it will make everyone who sees it, young and old, stop and think.”

Mark Freeland, Controller of Fiction & Entertainment at BBC Productions, added: “It’s a real privilege to bring to screen another one of David Walliams’s magical books. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas on BBC One without a man in a tatty coat, a granny on a souped up mobility scooter and now a boy in a dress.”

The series is set to be shot over the Autumn in London.
