With Fifty shades of grey having hit cinemas on February 14th, Universal have already started planning it’s follow up with Fifty Shades Darker.

It was only last March that Dana Brunetti, producer of the fourth coming movie Fifty Shades of Grey said that he had no plans at that time of doing a sequel.  This would seem an appropriate response to wait and see how the first film was received prior to making any commitment regarding a follow up.

Brunetti even went as far to say to MTV news “We just wrapped, and we will talk about it a year from now.”

But how things can change in the movie industry, with Universal now searching for a screenwriter for the E.L James Novel, Fifty Shades Darker.

With more than 70 million copies of the book having been currently sold and the movie coming in on a budget of only $40 miilion, Universal have now made the decision to press ahead purely on the basis of fan base versus expenditure.  In other words if 70 million copies have been sold of the book, and the movie only costs $40 million to make , then if only 11% of the people who purchased the book go to see the film a return of  $60 million will be made.

Although production will not commence until after Fifty shades of Grey is released (in case of a flop- unlikely), then we anticipate to expect to see Fifty Shades Darker in cinemas on 14th February 2016.

50 Shades of Grey will star Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia.

* Since writing it has been officially confirmed that James Dornan and Dakota Johnson,  will all be returning for another 2 more movie, which include Fifty Shades Darker and fifty Shades Freed. – February 9th 2015.  However it seems that since E.L James and Taylor Johnson had disputes over creative difference a new director may be on the cards.*
