The 3rd season of Broadchurch is set to start filming this coming May, but it has been confirmed that it will be its last with no plans to continue for a 4th series.

Broadchruch series 3

David Tennant and Olivia Colman will be back as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller in the ITV drama, which is set to air early 2017.

Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan are also returning to play Beth and Mark Latimer. Will they finally get a bit of happiness after two dreary series?

Arthur Darvill’s also back as Vicar Paul Coates, while Carolyn Pickles will return as newspaper editor Maggie Radcliffe, alongside Adam Wilson as Ellie’s son Tom.

Joining the cast for series three are Coronation Street’s Julie Hesmondhalgh and BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell, alongside Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson and Mark Bazeley.

The new eight-part series will see a brand new cast for Miller and Hardy, as they reunite to investigate a serious sexual assault.

It was assumed that Broadchurch would end with its third series due to creator Chris Chibnall’s appointment as Doctor Who chief.

“This is the final chapter of Broadchurch,” Chibnall said. “We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me.”

Series three will be directed by Paul Andrew Williams (Murdered by My Boyfriend), Daniel Nettheim (Humans) and Lewis Arnold (Banana).
