After years of will there be a Blade Runner 2, it has now been officially confirmed that Blade Runner 2 is to go into production.

Although a lot of the questions regarding a sequel has been directed at former Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, it seems although the project is moving forward a new director will take his place.

It seems that the replacement that has been found to take to the director Chair will be the man behind the 2013 movie Prisoner, Denis Villeneuve.

With a date now set in the diary for principal photography to start next summer ( 2016), which would lead us to believe that we could expect to see the movie in cinemas by the end of 2017.

Both Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay, based on an idea by Fancher and Ridely Scott. The story is said to take place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

Finally, with it being set several decades in the future it means that Harrison Ford has accepted an offer to reprise his role as Rick Deckard.
