Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman commence filming for Sherlock season 4

BBC series Sherlock as begun filming for its Christmas Special this year and season 4 to start in early 2016.

Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson for the detective series with a huge cult following.

The BBC officially confirmed that filming had commenced on January 6, and alluded to a member of the cast perhaps sporting a new moustache, with a tweet stating.

Element-hairy, my dear Watson! Filming is now underway on the Special, coming to @BBCOne in 2015.

Sherlock producers Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue recently hinted that fans can “expect big changes” when the series returns from a two-year hiatus at Christmas.

Cumberbatch has also expressed confidence about the show’s future, recently saying that he would love to continuing playing Sherlock as he grows older.
