This week has seen the BBC confirm series 2 air dates for both sides of the Atlantic, for the  swashbuckling  adventure series the Musketeers.

Tom Burke, Santiago Cabrera, Howard Charles and Luke Pasqualino are all back as the dashing heroes for these new episodes.

New additions to the cast include Marc Warren (Hustle) as the villainous Comte De Rochefort and Antonia Thomas (Misfits) as Samara.

The first series that aired earlier this year starred Peter Capaldi as the Cardinal. Since the first series aired Capaldi has landed the role of Dr Who and will there for not be returning for the second series.

The Musketeers creator Adrian Hodges previewed the new series, saying: “I think this is a more demanding journey than before, as we’ve upped the serial element and taken the show in a slightly tough and perhaps more surprising direction.

It’s everything you might expect but taken a degree or two further than last time. The tone remains the same but this is a darker and sexier Musketeers.

“Some things have changed, some things remain the same – the four boys, D’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are still very much at the centre of the action, but now they have a new and deadly opponent – the Comte De Rochefort, played by Marc Warren.”

The series will return to BBC one in the UK at 9 pm on January 2nd, whilst the US will see the show return on BBC America on the 17th January at 9pm.
