80’s classic comedy Uncle Buck has been given the green light by ABC.

Deadline has reported that Uncle Buck is to join the current trend of adapting 80’s comedy movies for the small screen.

The original movie which was directed by John Huges and starred the iconic 80’s actor John Candy, was based around a childish bachelor who suddenly has to take care of his brother’s unruly children.

After CBS tried to make a TV series out of it in the early 90’s, writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley of the new project have their work cut out for them.

The new series is said to be based around the same theme as the original movie, in that an immature uncle will be at the center of the script.

Along with Candy the original 1989 movie starred  Macaulay Culkin and Gaby Hoffmann, who recently starred alongside Jeffrey Tambor in Amazon Primers original series Transparent.
